The Language of Spirit
By embracing spirituality in your everyday life you enter into a deep relationship with the core of your being. Whether you come from traditional religion or have never claimed any kind of a formal relationship with God, everyday spirituality allows you to start listening to a divine voice that has been within you all along. The term Spirit is used to describe this energy, this presence, within you. Spirit communicates to you on a very personal level. It calls you to be, to express, to create, and to give. It is always life-affirming, calling forth more expression and love from you. When you learn to discern between the voice of fear and the voice of Spirit, you can choose what guidance you will follow. Spirit will often propel you in a certain direction, like the current of a river, and you have the choice to either go with the flow or decide to fight against it. We've all experienced, in our bodies and mind, the difference between going with the current and pushing against it. When we listen to our inner voice we are so clearly guided toward our highest good; not just for ourselves, but for all. One of the reasons we are guided to express the highest good for all is because Spirit has no attention on scarcity and survival. Those are human fears. The nature of Spirit is abundance. It is a life-giving, life-affirming energy. Plants continue to grow toward the light, the sun continues to shine, our earth continues to spin on its axis, birds continue to sing, and we continue to breathe. This energy can't help but give life. It is its nature to give, and we are one of the recipients of this life-giving energy. You have not been born into this world to ignore the voice of Spirit. When we stop communing with Spirit our life flow restricts. Just like the branch that withers when it separates from the vine, the joy and wonder of being alive disappear. Our focus turns to paying the bills, getting things done, doing what we have to do--putting in our time and hopefully having some fun along the way. Who could ask for more than that? And yet, Spirit wants to give us much more. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way many of us have lost track of how to receive from Spirit. It's impossible to truly be who we are and do what we're here to do without knowing how to receive inspiration from Spirit. The Buddha says; "Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without." If we're not receiving from Spirit, we're looking to the world to tell us who to be and what to do. This keeps us living in a very fearful place because our well being is dependent upon our circumstances. The voice of Spirit is very distinct and direct, with a calming and knowing tone. What I've noticed about this voice is that it speaks to my deepest desires, and I've come to learn that Spirit wants what I want. There is no separation. Sometimes this is hard to grasp; and yet, the guidance I receive is beyond my everyday fears and limitations. It doesn't even address the fears; it goes beyond and reveals to me what's possible. It is tempting to add a "yes but...." Spirit, however, doesn't operate in the world of limitations. It takes practice to discern between the voice of Spirit and the voice of fear, but by the end of this program the distinction will be crystal clear to you. When I recognize the voice of fear within me it's usually ranting and raving in a panic, wanting me to react to a situation. Its intention is typically to diminish me in some way, trying to convince me I'm less than who I am, not doing enough, not measuring up, inadequate, not smart enough, disciplined enough, healthy enough, or strong enough. The basic message: I'm not enough and I'm doing something wrong. The voice of Spirit is quite different: It encourages and nurtures. There is no fear present. It nudges me to express and be all that I am. There's no need to write out a pro and con list of what to do. When it comes from Spirit I just know. This voice waits patiently for me to listen. On a conscious level I can choose to ignore it or deter it with constant judgment, busyness, rejection, and the limitations I perceive, but it doesn't go away. It waits. There is no hurry in the world of Spirit. What is ours to have is ours to have. Our good can't be taken away from us, but we can choose to discount or ignore the guidance we are receiving. Even though we may be ignoring the voice of Spirit, it never stops communicating to us. We are always feeling something. Whether we are in the flow, being receptive to the guidance, or turning against it, the connection is constantly giving us information. Within this current or energy is information about us, our path, and what we're here to do. The presence of Spirit is always around us, communicating to us, but the interaction, the engagement, depends on our conscious decision to become aware of what we are feeling. The communication of Spirit comes to us as a surge of knowing something, often without much information. Sometimes we receive clear words and at other times we are drawn to something without knowing why. The less we judge this information the easier it flows. When we follow the guidance, we get our answer. Over time we start to trust these feelings, these thoughts that seem to drop in or move through us without effort or struggle. |
